Hi,
I want to know which panel is compatible with wildcard subdomain, i know cpanel is compatible only!

And i have a dedicated server (Intel Celeron D/215/220, 2 Go DDR 2 ram, 500 Go of space disk) run on cent os with plesk 8.4.
For more détail look here: Kimsufi C-05G | Linux Plesk 8.4 (http://www.kimsufi.co.uk/)

And i want to know a to do the wildcard subdomain!

thank's for helping!

I know that both CPanel and DirectAdmin can work with wildcard subdomains. With DirectAdmin you need to be the root user or have the root user change settings for you to get the wildcard subdomains working. Here are the CPanel and DirectAdmin directions:

I also think a member here was able to get wildcard subdomains working on Plesk somehow, but how to set this up under Plesk I don't know or how hard it is.

I'm using plesk.

Look on google for directions regarding how to add domain wildcard on plesk.

Then, at your domain DNS control registar (godaddy, name.com, etc), don't forget to also setup the wildcard value.

Last but not least - follow the instructions carefully and remember to wait a few hours as the DNS takes it's sweet time to be updated.

Well it isn't just about control panel, my webhost enabled wildcard dns thing on my hosting account without using the * sub domain in cPanel and I to be honest, its been 100x faster since that change.

Its awesome :D

well as one who does understand what was written. I can appreciate Cody’s comment. I can’t really talk tech like this to my friends without them getting cross-eyed either.

thats a nice host of you

but the problem he have is that he cant use any sub domains then :S
or cpanel does the same (httpconf)

then to answer to the plesk question

funny part is that it is possible as long you got a dns server and apache

apache is needed to add the redirection
dns is needed to add the redirection to

as cpanel basic installs a dns server is that problem solved , but plesk does have a external dns server ( is on windows ) so you need to use that dns server to handle the wildcard (and httpconf to handle the subdomain appointing)

its like in cpanel
if you create a new domain name in cpanel and you remove the dns , then it will refuse to work
if you delete the sub domain but you leave the dns , then you see a nice cpanel start page (this server is running cpanel ... and so on)

so if you use google to gain a bit of basic (or as backup) and you are not affraid to break stuff , then it is even possible to do this on a dedicated server with only apache on it

the basic is the same , change dns and httpconf for the right place
to make it short

httpconf says what domain name goes to what directory and ip
dns says what domain name is what ip (domain name server )

so having them both local (like cpanel) is the easy'st way , having them extern is harder but still possible
please note , if you use the dns of your domain registrar then it is possible that you are limited to xx subdomains (like mine , limited to 99 subdomains)

hopely this helps you a lot :D

No I mean he configured it in a different way to enable WildCard sub in a different way instead of making a * sub in cPanel. And honestly, I don't get how/why but it seemed to make the hosted forums load faster :P

Western societies adopt italic script as the norm for handwriting. This is partly due to the ease and natural movement of a bur-in on a plate, used in engraving.

Wildcard subdomains are useful when you wish to redirect all visitors to your main website regardless of what subdomain they access your website through. You can skip this short section if you have already setup your DNS server to allow wildcard subdomains.
