View Full Version : Installing the MAS

("MAS" short for Mysidia Adoptables Script)

So, some users find installing the MAS quite difficult, and at first, I had no clue, but I spent 3 days to explore and figure things out (I have no idea on coding so that's why I spent ages).

Because I'm that kind :D I'm going to help you install MAS so you won't have to waste your time, this tutorial is aimed directly for 000WebHost (http://www.000webhost.com/). So if you are installing MAS to a different site host, there may be some different steps to this, so just adapt it to your host.

1. Download the MAS
Check the announcements, and click the latest thread on the script, and download the ZIP file.

2. Unzip it
Right click on the file and click "Extract All".

3. Login to 000WebHost
Register if you haven't already.

4. Create a site
If you haven't already of course.

5. Go to the Control Panel of the site
Go to "List Accounts" and click on "Go to CPanel".

6. Access the MySQL section
Click the image: http://members.000webhost.com/images/4_3.gif

7. Create a new database and user
These details could be anything you like. When you click "Create Database", KEEP THE PAGE UP, don't go to a different page, keep it up!

8. Download File Zilla
Download File Zilla (http://filezilla-project.org/) because the 000WebHost uploader is dodgy and misses files when you select them.

9. Install and open File Zilla
Once you have opened File Zilla, at the top there is a form which says "Host", "Username", "Password" and "Port".

10. Go back to the tab/window that you have your MySQL Database details on
Fill the form in with those details, ignore the "Port" field and click "Quickconnect".

11. Once connected
You will see a box on the left side, open the MAS unzipped file up, and enter the "adoptables" folder. Select ALL files INSIDE the "adoptables" folder and double click into "Public_html" on the other box at the right. And then DRAG the selected files from the left box to the right box.

12. Go back to 000WebHost CPanel
And click on "File Manager": http://members.000webhost.com/images/3_2.gif

13. Click on "Public_html"
You will find all the files transferred (if your transfer has finished, check File Zilla application). Find "default.php" and DELETE it.

14. Click on "inc"
Check the box next to "config.php", and click the CHMOD button, type in "777" and click the green tick. You have just changed the permissions to config.php.

15. Click the blue back arrow
And then click "Up" and click on "picuploads".

16. Check the boxes next to "gif", "jpg" and "png"
And CHMOD them to 777.

17. Click the blue back arrow
Click "Up", and then click on "inc".

18. Open a new tab/window
And type in this:
http://yoursite.something.com/install/index.php Change "http://yoursite.something.com/" to your site's address. And click enter.

19. Follow the steps
When it says you have successfully installed it, go back to the File Manager and check the box next to "config.php", CHMOD it to 644. And then click the back arrow, "Up" and check the box next to "install"... DELETE the folder.
-----------------------------------------------
Okay, time for x10hosting (http://x10hosting.com/) tutorial :3

1. Download the MAS script
View the announcements and find the latest version and download the ZIP version.

2. Log in to x10hosting
Or register for an account if you need to- note that setting up a new account may take a while.

3. Access the file manager
Click: Hosting>Login to CPanel>http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/5966/x10filemanager.png

4. Upload the ZIP file
Click: http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/6925/x10upload.gif and select the ZIP Mysidia Adoptables Script file (don't extract yet) and click upload.

5. Extract the ZIP file
Go back to the file manager, and select the ZIP file, and click http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/5539/x10extract.gif and click "Extract File(s)"

6. Delete the ZIP file
Once you have extracted the ZIP file, delete the ZIP file as you don't need it any more. To do this, select the ZIP file and click the http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/6946/x10delete.gif.

7. Move the files & delete unnecessary files
[i]Double click on "Mys version 1.2.0" (or whatever version you may have), double click on "mys120" (as again, the name may be different), and select ALL of the files by clicking on the http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/2370/x10selectall.gifSelect All. And then click on http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/2580/x10move.gif and where it says to type the path to where you want to move the files to, type in "/public_html" and then delete the "Mys version 1.2.0" file.

8. Access the folder "inc"
Access the folder "inc" and select "config.php", then click the "change permissions" button, and then make it so the numbers says "777". And click "Change Permissions".

9. Go back to "public_html" by clicking "up one level"
Access "picuploads".

10. Select "gif", "jpg" and "png"
And change their permissions to 777.

11. Open a new tab/window
And type in this:
http://yoursite.something.com/install/index.php Change "http://yoursite.something.com/" to your site's address. And click enter.

12. Follow the steps
When it says you have successfully installed it, go back to the File Manager and select the file "config.php", change the permissions to 644. And then click on "up one level", and select the FOLDER "install"... DELETE the folder.

You have successfully installed the MAS :happycbig: Any problems, please don't hesitate to reply to this thread.

I try to go to the yoursite.something.com with my site's details filled in, but it leads me here: http://error404.000webhost.com/?

I did all the steps...

Did you specify the correct database server? It is not localhost in 000webhost.com

The Codfin Keeper
01-21-2011, 11:37 AM
Yes, I have it that way, and I'm at installation. Just found the problem - the files needed were in a seperate folder, not public_html. It's fine now :)

Hall of Famer
01-21-2011, 11:38 AM
Alright, glad it works for you. I will see if I can get hypercam so that video tutorials can be made in future, possibly after Mys v1.2.0 is out.

Okay, another question.

I've finished all the steps in the tut, but when I visit my site, I get this:

------------------------------

What does it mean?

Hall of Famer
01-21-2011, 12:04 PM
It means that you must have specified incorrect database information. It can be either with your database server, username, or even table prefix.

The Codfin Keeper
01-21-2011, 12:06 PM
How would I go ahead fixing that?

Hall of Famer
01-21-2011, 12:07 PM
what is the table prefix of your database? Also the script path may be a problem too. What is the name of the folder that contains Mysidia Adoptables on your site? Show me a screenshot of what values you entered for this database setup page so that we can assist you further.

The Codfin Keeper
01-21-2011, 12:10 PM
The table prefix is adopt_ or whatever the default was, the script path was /public_html, which holds all the mysidia stuff. I don't have a screenshot of what I entered, though.

ChibiMaestro
01-21-2011, 12:39 PM
o.O Means you didn't install it correctly... o.O
I can't give a detailed answer... because Idk on PHP o.O:hmmm:

The Codfin Keeper
01-21-2011, 12:43 PM
Looking at it further, it seems that file_get_contents in index.php doesn't exist in functions...o.O

The database stuff is correct too.

ChibiMaestro
01-21-2011, 12:47 PM
GAH... I put my tab up for too long xD

Anyway, I didn't put "/public_html" in it... I left it blank... could that be the problem?

The Codfin Keeper
01-21-2011, 12:47 PM
Okay, I'll try that...

EDIT: No change.

Kaeliah
01-21-2011, 01:00 PM
You should post these problems in their own thread in the questions and support section but basically the error your getting is because your database isn't responding properly. For some reason it cannot find the table links. Maybe double check it's name properly in your PhpMyAdmin?

Anyway, glad you got it activated.... and remember to not use the flash uploader because it is GLITCHY: even if you select all the files to upload, it'll still miss some files out! (I did that before, and I had to check through every single folder to find which was missing D: )

Gah, more trouble. :mii:

For the File Zilla thing, should you download the client one or the server one? I downloaded the client one..

Kaeliah

MySQL user name: a1284036_ [ ]

what do I put on thefirst two boxes? the name of my site and my username for the 000webhoster? or what..?

Well these have nothing to do with your site's name or 000webhost's username. It asks you to create a database, and then a user to that database. These are the info you need for installing this script.

ChibiMaestro
02-22-2011, 01:25 PM
Yes, if you use Java Uploader on 000WebHost... however it is glitchy and misses files out... so if you do use it, you will need to check through every folder and find any missing files...

If you're going to use x10Hosting, you can upload the ZIP file of the Mys script, and extract it, and then select ALL the files inside the "Installation" folder, and move it out and then delete the folder.

Well Shiann you are only supposed to upload the folder Installation to your server, if you are building a new site. What you can do is to rename the folder installation to anything you want afterwards.

shiann
03-27-2011, 05:55 PM
I renamed it, but still the same thing... ._.

Hall of Famer
03-27-2011, 05:59 PM

shiann
03-27-2011, 06:59 PM

Solistia
03-27-2011, 08:07 PM
It's because you uploaded the installation folder itself, not just the files inside the folder. You need to "cut" the files inside the Installation folder on your website, and "paste" into your main folder.

Alternatively, you can rename the folder "Installation" to whatever your adoptable site will be named.

After that add "/install" to your site url, and it will take you to the install setup

Hall of Famer
03-28-2011, 10:51 PM
Alright lemme explain it to you then Shiann.

Script path is the directory in which Mys is installed on your server. If you use your root directory/public html, leave it blank. Otherwise change it to the name of your subdirectory. A good example is Mys v1.2.1's demo site:

http://www.mysidiaadoptables.com/mys121

The domain name is mysidiaadoptables.com, while the highlighted part is script path.

The table prefix is quite easy to understand, if you see your database tables all have the first several letters to begin with, this is your table prefix. Table prefix is usually followed by the underscore symbol. A good example is adopts_adoptables, adopts_owned_adoptables, adopts_users. The table prefix here is apparently adopts_. Keep in mind that you can name your table prefix to anything you like, and there's no need to change its value at all.

umm this looks strange, are you sure you installed Mys to the correct directory as you uploaded to your server? It seems rather weird to me that you have both installation and upgrade folders, you only need to upload everything within the installation folder through ftp. The upgrade folder is useless to you unless you are previous running Mys v1.2.0.

Ruinily
03-30-2011, 05:27 PM
Well its all in the public_html folder like the guide said, and yes I was noobish at first and uploaded the whole thing, then pulled the files out of the folders and put them in the right place. -.-' The upgrade folder was left over, its not causing a problem is it? I can easily delete it anyway. Or should I just upload the files by themselves? I dont think that'd make a difference, but obviously I dont know much about this stuff, I'm here to learn. :)

Hall of Famer
03-30-2011, 05:32 PM
I see, looks like it is not the cause of your problem then. There are three other possible causes of your problem:

1. Your SQL database did not exist from cpanel/phpmyadmin.
2. Your SQL database info was not entered correctly upon installation.
3. Your site configuration(such as domain name, script path) were incorrect.

You have to enter your FTP server details.
To get their go to FTP details in your cPanel

Server name > Username/db > password > port (idk if you need to use it speciffically) > quick connect.

@Gashu: Well the folder is usually not named "adoptables" on your site(it is just a sample folder name, which varies with users), it is referred to the very folder that contains all script files of Mysidia Adoptables.

@Superdude44: This is indeed a very strange problem, chances are your webhost either provided you with wrong login info or the server was experiencing some technical difficulties. Id recommend you to submit a ticket to your host to make sure if the server was working properly.

and what I've got entered: (I'm using 000webhost.com)

I've got my user number it gives me and my set password in the asterisks (stars). What I just user the host as: 000webhost.com, it loads more stuff, but still fails to connect.
here's what it tells me:
Response: 220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [privsep] [TLS] ----------
Response: 220-You are user number 1 of 50 allowed.
Response: 220-Local time is now 18:40. Server port: 21.

Response: 220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server.

Command: USER ********_data
Response: 331 User ********_data OK. Password required

Hello! I hope... that maybe someone will answer me. I have a question reguarding the last parts of installations.

The form is below... Can someone tell me what goes into the Database name option? It seems so simple but im missing it :(

Mysidia Adoptables v1.3.1 Installation Wizard
Step 3: Database and Site Configuration

This page will set up your config.php file which is responsible for handling database and configuration information for your installation of Mysidia Adoptables.

Database Information:

Database Host:

Database User:

Database Password:

Database Name:

Domain Information:

Domain Name:

You must enter your domain name in the form of yoursite.com ONLY! DO NOT include the http:// or www. portions of the domain.

Script Path:

Your script path tells Mysidia Adoptables where it is installed on the server relative to your domain. If you have uploaded this script to the ROOT of your domain name then leave the Script Path box blank. If you installed this script in a subfolder, such as adoptables, then put the folder name with a slash before it, such as /adoptables in the Script Path box.

Database Table Prefix:

The table prefix determines how the tables in your database are named. In most cases, the adopts_ prefix will do, however if you are running multiple copies of Mysidia Adoptables on the same database, change the table prefix.

Hall of Famer
10-31-2012, 08:32 AM
Well did you create a database, username and password in cpanel? These are preliminary steps that must be completed before installing the script.

DO NOT use 000web

They will cancel your account and give you no reason as to why, it seems they consider an adoptable site "online gaming" and if you are using a free account then they just flat out get rid of your account.

Wanted to warn any one thinking of using it, I used them after seeing this tutorial and that's what happened to me.

ChibiMaestro
02-11-2013, 10:03 AM
Sorry about not mentioning it.
You'l find somewhere on the control panel about 'MySQL databases'.
If you have a MySQL database wizard, that's even better.

Create a database (basically give the database a name), and a user (username and password). Add the user to the database with all permissions.

For example, your database could be sitename_adopt
and your user account could be sitename_user
You enter those details along with user account password on the installation forms.

I will make a more clear and updated version of the installation soon :)

Posting this here because I didn't want to make a whole new thread for something easily fixable (or so I hope). ^-^

11. Once connected
You will see a box on the left side, open the MAS unzipped file up, and enter the "adoptables" folder. Select ALL files INSIDE the "adoptables" folder and double click into "Public_html" on the other box at the right. And then DRAG the selected files from the left box to the right box.

So, um, where's this supposed "adoptables" folder? I looked aorund in my script folders, and I couldn't find it. I tried searching all of my files, and it didn't come up. I just downloaded the newest script, so am I missing something or not looking in the right place?

Other than that, this guide has been extremely helpful :)

Oh yeah this one actually was for the old Mys v1.1.x installation guide lol, although I do believe Chibi edited it to work with Mys v1.2.x. In the latest script the folder structure is a bit different.

Anyway with the newer script, the folder is simply called 'Mysidia Adoptables v1.3.x' I believe.

8. Access the folder "inc"
Access the folder "inc" and select "config.php", then click the "change permissions" button, and then make it so the numbers says "777". And click "Change Permissions".

I'm looking at the "inc" folder, but I do not have a "config.php" file. I have a "config_adopts.php" and a "config_forums.php" though. Should I be changing them?

Change "config_adopts.php" to "config.php". The file names were modified for instances where people needed to upgrade their installations.

I even tried redownloading the files and retrying.

I have an idea on what it might be. I'm going to mess around and see if it changes anything.

Edit:

I suspect it may have something to do with php versions. Because I had this issue in the past I believe. What php version does the script need/run on?

I get the follow errors on these php versions.

Well the script requires PHP 5.3 or above(or more precisely, PHP 5.3.9+, but it's easy to get around so long as you use PHP 5.3), it does not work with PHP 4 or PHP 5.2. I wonder why you are getting the class not found error on PHP 5.3.27-5.4.17 though, as far as I know the script runs on these versions of PHP.

U are free to do so, but I believe it's clear what versions of PHP is required for this script. PHP 5.3 and 5.4 should be able to run this script without issues, there is no support for PHP 5.2 unfortunately.

MikiHeart
10-28-2013, 11:29 PM
I have access to php 5.3 and 5.4. You say it should be able to run, but it's not o-o

I'm not trying to get it to work on php 5.2. I'm trying to get it to work in general.

Is the spl's autoload_register function working properly?

When i enter my host user and password on filezilla that i got from ooowebhost, it says it can't connect to the server

First - you're not using "localhost" as the host, correct?

That web host has a page for their FTP program, I can't remember exactly where on the page. It should have all of your details, double-check that you're entering the correct details.

What is the exact message you're getting when it doesn't connect? Is it saying it can't find the server, there are too many connections...?

erica65404
12-14-2013, 04:27 PM
it shows 2 errors. error: connection timed out and error: Could not connet to server.
I followed the deirections. It game me this information:

MySQL database will be created in 1 minute. Use these details for your PHP scripts:

$mysql_host = "host";
$mysql_database = "database";
$mysql_user = "user";
$mysql_password = "password";

I changed the values for this post, but I used the actual values on filezilla. I was also sent an email with account details and file upload details. All of these showed the same error messages.

erica65404
12-14-2013, 04:29 PM
the upload details contained FTP hostname, username, and password. That didn't work either.

AlexC
12-14-2013, 04:35 PM
Please edit your post instead of double posting.

With the ones you posted, those are your mySQL details, not your FTP details.

MySQL is your database, it resides on your server and is used to store information. You'll need that for installing the script. FTP stands for "Files to Program", if I remember correctly, and is a remote way to access your file manager. Only your FTP details can be put into filezilla.

I'm signing up for 000webhost to see if I can find your details easier.

FTP stands for "Files to Program",

It's "File Transfering Protocol". Just like HTTP is "Hypertext Transfer Protocol". Web is all protocol based, so every "TP" is most likely a transfer protocol

SQLSTATE[HY000] [1045] Access denied for user 'glorykat'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

This sort of error can plague any user working with any framework setup that connects to MySQL, because the problem here lies with the username/password you're trying to connect to the database with. I personally can't advise much beyond triple checking your configuration for Mysidia to make sure it is trying to use the correct details, checking your MySQL through PHPMyAdmin to make sure that you can indeed log in with that same username/password combination, and then checking your permissions for that user (http://wiki.phpmyadmin.net/pma/user_management) - to make sure the user has access to all the functions of the database.

After browsing around the web trying to find some help for troubleshooting, all I found was the following vague gems:

Sometimes you have to use localhost not 127.0.0.1 for this to work.
Is the password in quotes?
This might be worth a read (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11096045/mysql-said-documentation-1045-access-denied-for-user-rootlocalhost-usi) since you're on localhost (presumably through WAMP or similar). But it may be rather very irrelevant to this situation.

And whether you attempt this first or last, you can always try creating a new user in PHPMyAdmin (http://cuiborails.wordpress.com/2012/03/12/add-user-for-phpmyadmin-in-command-line/), just to make sure you did it properly the first time.

gloryKAT

directory path?

how do i figure that out XD

all that's in there is this:

<?php
//Mysidia Adoptables Site Configuration File

define('DBHOST', 'localhost'); //DB Hostname
define('DBUSER', 'foxmerev_gloryka'); //DB Username
define('DBPASS', '***********'); //DB Password
define('DBNAME', 'foxmerev_main'); //Your database name
define('DOMAIN', 'foxmerevale.x10.mx'); //Your domain name (No http, www or . )
define('SCRIPTPATH', ''); //The folder you installed this script in
define('PREFIX', 'adopts_prefix');
?>

went into classes and found this:

}

/**
* The getTemplate method, will be added later once smarty or another template engine such as Twig is implemented.
* @access public
* @return Template
*/
public function getTemplate(){
$templateClass = "inc/smarty/Smarty.class.php";
require $this->path->getRoot().$templateClass;

$this->template = new Template($this->path);
Registry::set(new String("template"), $this->template, TRUE, TRUE);
return $this->template;
}

which appears to be part of my problem because it cant call upon smarty (it's not there)

okay i edited smarty and now this occurs:

What is the url to your site?

Is it like mysite.com or is it like mysite.com/pets?

If it's like the second example then your problem is the 'script path' in config.php.... in that situation the 'script path' would be the part after the .com (in the example I show, script path would be '/pets')

Original issue I posted about appears to be fixed, I can log into my account but I am not able to get into the admin control panel. Also, the site doesn't load right and I think it's the result of being on a subdomain. If anyone has any settings suggestions for subdomain installation, I would really appreciate it!

my site is: messengers.godspack.com

EDIT: After messing around with things, now I can't log in. Buh. I use Godaddy for my hosting, everything is technically in the godspack.com/messengers folder because it's a subdomain. Can't seem to get anything to work!

EDIT2: Have tried changing the config.php file to this:

<?php
//Mysidia Adoptables Site Configuration File

define('DBHOST', 'messengersadopt.db.12382978.hostedresource.com'); //DB Hostname
define('DBUSER', 'messengersadopt'); //DB Username
define('DBPASS', '******'); //DB Password
define('DBNAME', 'messengersadopt'); //Your database name
define('DOMAIN', 'godspack.com'); //Your domain name (No http, www or . )
define('SCRIPTPATH', '/messengers'); //The folder you installed this script in
define('PREFIX', 'adopts_');
?>

Now the site LOOKS correct when you go to godspack.com/messengers but if you attempt to log in, it just takes you to a 404 page. In fact, all links don't function correctly. BUH.
