View Full Version : How big should pixel eggs be?

I think I made mine a bit small. Does anyone think they should be bigger, and how much bigger? At their current size I'm afraid I won't be able to add much detail. I'd also like to get their permanent size worked out in time for my new site's launch.

Also, what about the shape of them? Should their shape be more unique? Should they not even be eggs (since that's so overdone, really). My site is centered around magic, so I could use something other than eggs. Maybe magical orbs... I don't know. I'm horrible. :P

EDIT: Here's the current size: http://i.imgur.com/F7iHWyv.gif

I think it's an okay size. You can go up quite a bit to 100x100 though. It depends on how many you want to put in your signature. Most sites have restrictions and bigger images means less room in sigs and more and less advertisement, depending.

I like the idea of instead of eggs, having flares. Um, like these:

(Only multi-colored and maybe you can see the vague shape of the adoptable in it.)

That's a pretty good idea about the flares, but it'd be difficult for me to pixel I think. :c

I've redone the eggs though and made them slightly bigger. They look much better and now I can add more detail to the ones that need it. c: Thanks for the feedback squiggler!

Making the eggs too small like 16x16 to 31x31 is frustrating for users to click on, 32x32 is a perfect size.

Making them too big also is frustrating as it makes signatures too long in some cases, and there are forum boards out there that have guidelines, so stuff like 65x65 is pushing it.

Obviously if you have a circle egg it would be weird, so you can kind of be flexible.

Not too big, or not too small.

I dont think the size/dimension really matters, it's more about consistency. If your site uses sprites that are 16x16, just stick to that standard and dont use 32x32 or 48x48 sprites interchangeably. For me the ideal dimension is around 48x48 or 64x64, but there' no universal standard so you should be fine unless your sprite is too small for your members to actually see what it is.
