Well, it's official! MyBB 1.4 has gone gold!

http://www.mybboard.net/

I'll be getting a release out to you all hopefully within the next 72 hours. I have to test the script on my test server with the new MyBB 1.4 version just to make sure there are no issues. I also have to test the automated script installer because I made a few security related changes to a few things.

Those of you who want to get a head start can begin by downloading MyBB 1.4 (http://www.mybboard.net/) and installing on your server. You can also enable wildcard DNS / subdomains (http://www.easymodrewrite.com/example-subdomains) on your servers. :)

Ive tried the wildcard dns but ive just got a bit stuck with that mod rewrite bit. I THINK ive enabled mod rewrite correctly in the httpd.

I'm not sure of a specific time, but probably either late Monday or early-mid Tuesday for a release.

I'll send out a mass mailing to all members when it's released, so just make sure you have it set in your profile to receive our newsletters. :)

You should just have to do steps 1 and 2 in the document I provided, as well as make sure mod-rewrite is enabled for your server. If you do things correctly you should be able to type anysubdomain.yoursite.com and go to your site's homepage. I will provide the .htaccess code required when I release. :)

Here's an update for all of you who are curious what I am doing minute-by-minute:

I'm currently installing this script onto my live forum host at WebringAmerica (http://www.webringamerica.com) to test the installer one final time as well as make sure once and for all that there are no bugs or issues when installing in a live environment.

Assuming I get everything I need to tonight, I hope to have a release for you all sometime tomorrow (Monday) , either in the morning or afternoon.

You can get started by installing MyBB 1.4 and loading it up with themes and plugins if you would like to get a head start. :)

What about upgrading? Just upgrade the main forum to 1.4 and modify it? Just wondering.

There currently isn't an upgrade path from 1.2.X to 1.4.X. I plan, however, to support upgrades for the 1.4.X series, such as 1.4.0 to 1.4.1. :)

I'm actually getting the release up NOW! :)

You should work on a upgrade path for those who need it, I don't need it. And the script would be the best. :) And cool, I get to see the next release. WOOH!

As far as an upgrade path goes, I only know of three sites at most that are using the MyBB Multiforums Mod for MyBB 1.2 in a live (non-testing) environment. The usage of the old script is so low, along with the changes are so many that an upgrade from 1.2 to 1.4 is impractical.

That's good then, not much loss but now the use of this is bound to go up so upgrade paths in the future should be added. ;)
