What should I code next? Opinions Please!
 

Hello,

I am feeling a bit bored, so I am thinking of making a second multiforums script for another forum software program. This script would be developed along with my MyBB multiforums script. I am looking for opinions of which forum software you would like to see a multiforums script for.

So far I am leaning towards either ICEBB or XMB. I am looking for ideas on which forum software you would like to see "multified". I don't want to do PHPBB or SMF because they both already have free Multiforums scripts available for them.

Have ideas or comments? Let me know!

TextFileBB doesn't use a database, which would make a multiforums environment use of this hard to do. Also, it wouldn't be easy to admin from a host standpoint without a database.

Vbulletin? No, First I would have to get a license. Even then a multiforum for VB is illegal.

Yes, there is already a free SMF multiforums script. Also there are ones for PHPBB that are free.

Though, never hurts to have options though. Look at how many phpBB has.

True. Maybe I'll wait until SMF2 and make one. After I work out the bugs for the AEF one and then update the MyBB one with the new features from the AEF one I will most likely make one for XMB.

I've talked to the creator of MonkeyBoards, and he might re-code the whole thing, and allowed me to check the code for bugs last I talked to him, so he has discontinued MonkeyBoards as of now, that is why the official MB site is disabled for downloads, support, etc. ;)

I believe MyProBB is free. Community Server is not free, it is rather expensive. A few of those others may not be free either.

Well, I think after I get the AEF script out of beta I will work on a version of the script for XMB, that seems like cool software.

Any ones I will do will have to be for PHP forums that use MySQL databases. I will not be doing non PHP / SQL forum software and I will not be doing any paid products.

Also, some like ICEBB and others are not being developed, or they are being developed slowly and don't have any themes. Some of these need to mature before I would make a script for them.

I would say none of them. You need to focus on one script at a time, the reason being that multi forum scripts are usually easy to hack and you will constantly have to update. Why do you think almost all the other MF Scripts got discontinued? They realized how much effort would have to be constantly put into them and they just gave up.

True, but I will continue to update the MyBB one as things change. I think I got most of the core features in it though, now it is just a matter of making improvements as I think of them as well as updating when MyBB updates.

I won't. I use it for my own forum host so I need to update it. :)

I did find a site though where some jerk removed the copyright without paying to do so. I contacted him and he got all defensive. I don't think there is much I can do seeing as he has his own server. That's not very encouraging.

I will have to see what I can do. He claims he modified my script heavily, but it looks to me all he did was change the look and remove the copyright. Hopefully there is something I can do, but if not I will just rely on the honest people who use my script and maybe shame the ones who remove the copyright without paying.

All he did was change the way the script looks (the HTML output) and remove the copyright.

I am not going to give out a link, that would be bad.

I do know, though, that his site will soon crash. I made a test board and he had about 100 MyBB themes installed. For one, that many themes will shortly crash his database, as all of the themes are stored in the database, and another, some of those themes don't work with the new MyBB version because they haven't been updated. He also has an ad about 300 pixels high at the bottom of the forums. I'm not too worried.

Simple thing to do is create a forum called fraud sites or somthing along the lines or even reported sites put in captal letters


"FOR THOSE PEOPLE SEARCHING GOOGLE FOR %WEBSITE% DO NOT GO NEAR IT THE SCRIPT IS HERE FREE"

Or somthing along the lines belive me this works people searching google for his site will imediatly leave it and wont bother touching it.

Get him blacklisted in a simple way. It works. If he asks you to remove the notice say yes once you return the copyright. :) job done.

Yup. This method works tho because if his sites blacklisted on google.com no one will even touch it.
