If the adoptable is at the max level it will keep getting clicks. It will not change to the red x image, it will just stay at the max level image. :)

I just found an answer i was looking for :)
Promos by definition are ment to be "rare" , so really we need it so that a member can only adopt 1 each...
I found out yesterday that members can currently adopt as many as they like, even though i set the max a member can have as being 1...
Also, is it possible to "destroy" a promo code once its been used and then have it automatically generate a random new one ?? , this would stop the same promo code from being passed around and used by everyone..
