I know what you mean. When I first started I wanted to host everything too, but that didn't really work out at first. When I did blog hosting on my site it actually got hacked, which is when I decided to stick with free forums.
The key is finding a niche and delivering a superior service. Also, you need to stick with it. My site is finally doing well after almost 4 years, but it wasn't like that in the beginning. :)
