Retiring adoptables

Does anyone know how to make it so that you can retire an adoptable without removing the egg image/auto-growing that adoptable? I want to be able to retire old pets, but I do not want users who adopted them later on to skip the baby stage (level 0).

You could always have the egg image as the first & second level (But only have it as 1 click up or something), and just continue the levels onwards like normal? I can't remember if there is a level cap, but I don't think there is.

This is what I'd suggest doing, but I haven't played around with Mysidia adopts in a while so I don't know if there's a new or updated way. c:
