Shop adopts only sell once? help please!

How would I make it to where adopts i put in the adoption shop can only sell once? I am not good at CSS, at all, so help is required.. haha. I tried making the adopt where it could only be adopted once (conditions) and putting it in the shop, but that did not work. multiple people could adopt the pet.

For this you will need PHP, not CSS.

If you want something to be only once, perhaps a use of a promo code would be better?

Well, i want the adoptable to be listed to be sold. In fact, I want to do this with multiple-- on my adoptable site, each adoptable is unique, and I would like to sell some of them.
