umm it does not seem to me that you did anything wrong here, weird. If you have defined an incorrect database, it should display an error message rather than a blank page. Do you have an error log on your site? If so, can you check what's inside it? There are many possibilities I can think of. Other than database error, theres also a chance the host is not 'localhost' for your site.
