Default Preferred Art Styles

Hey guys,

I've been having a hard time settling on a theme and art style for my site. I finally have the theme down after much debate (going with multiple species and splices...more fun than sticking to one species). Now I am perplexed on what to do about the art.

The simple fact of the matter is that pixel art- sprites- are smaller and fit much better into people's signatures, but can be a lot harder to design on. I like larger pets because I can make the markings more intricate, but I just love spriting and am pretty good at it once I get back into the swing of things. Plus pixel items are easier for me, and take a shorter amount of time to complete.

So, which is your preferred style, and why?

Well, I was thinking that it would be cool to do a mixture of both, but Ferrepets is focused on breeding right? Since the whole point of breeding is to get new interesting designs, I think you should try to do what looks best with designs. Also, as long as your larger pets aren't super huge (like over 150 in height), I don't think it would be an issue. Maybe just a few pixels smaller than the ferret in your signature?

I prefer the large style, because I fondly remember playing Neopets as a kid. However, linking in signatures does become a problem - I wish Mysidia would save a scaled down 'thumbnail' version of pets that could fit in a signature.

I like both!

I do tend to like pixel art more since it's usually smaller and signature friendly. I also like to admire the detail that goes into, lol.

I like the vector/drawn style as well, but only if it's done in a realistic style. I don't really like adopts that look too cartoonish or chibi-like. No offense to anyone! They're cute but not my cup of tea. Probably why I didn't stick around Neopets long. :P

What we compromised on is making a big art page. We did the pixel art for the adopts and the signatures, but fancier art for our big art page. It's also a way to show off all our adopts.

Ah, I know of several sites that function like that, squiggler, and they were great. I think I may go ahead and try to implement such a system...after I figure out how work an adventure system after I figure out to to work a news-blog systems after I....and so on. The only drawback then is the amount of artwork that becomes necessary to do.
