View Full Version : Shading Adoptables?

I'm wondering if someone can shade some adoptable templates? I've made some realistic adoptables (not completely finished yet), but my shading still sucks. I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to shade the blank templates once I'm done with them.
If not, I'll try to do them myself, but I really do suck at it. There would be 16 templates in all. None of them bigger then 100x100 pixels - most probably won't make it to that.
Realistic shading would be nice - I'm willing to offer a click nursery page script, a basic no-cheat exploring script, all tradable pets page or four rats of your choice when the sites opens, as well as 1,000 Nibbles as payment.
If interested, I'll send you the link to the blank templates if you want.

That's not the nursery/click page I gave you is it?

No, I actually never took that code. I felt guilty that I never had the time to finish or even start the adoptables you asked for so I never used it. Later on, I had an idea on how to make it, so I took a modified code I already made, modified it farther and came up with a click nursery.
I can show you the code if you're worried I would have stolen it.

By realistic shading do you mean pixel or do you have a example of what you would like?
AlexC

Pixel shading - but not the kind like the stuff in my signature. That's really all I can do and it looks awful most of the time. D: Or at least when I do it.

If you have a example of what you want maybe I can help.
It's not that bad I think with practice you can get it.

Idealy I was hoping for a dithering style, something like this: http://dalmatianluver.deviantart.com/art/Pixel-dump-III-127981178 But I know it's hard to do - I have tried it and it just doesn't look right. ;-; I can give it another shot if nobody is willing though.

I don't mind giving it a try if you like.
AlexC

alright - you'll have to give it a few days until I'm done the baby set of outlines. I'll message them to you and you can give it a try.

Ok I'll practice till then.

There may be a slight delay with this... I'm struggling in school - by a lot. Like, people making me drop courses lot. So I'll be a little slow pixeling. I'll try to get them to you in a week, how's that?

I can wait if you need more time.

I have been pixel shading fur for a while now...here's an example:

So, I can help, if you like :) Though 16 might take a while...I can do around 5 a day...

The offer is greatly appreciated - I dunno if both of you want to give it a shot? The only problem is if the shading is close enough to match.
I still don't have the templates - still school troubles, but I'll have them over spring break.

I don't mind waiting my self I love pixel art. Maybe we can spit it and get it done quicker.

Having two shaders WOULD make it go quicker - Corsair, do you think you can pixel similar to Iris's?
Corsair
03-06-2012, 06:31 PM
um what shading?
AlexC

She had an example of a pixel above - but maybe she can post a better one where you can see the shading better.

I can match any shading really but why the change of shading?

Did I mention a change in shading? I may have, gah, I can't remember now.
Iris, can you match the type of shading I'm looking for, the dithering style?

Yep, Gloomee, I can dither :) This will always be one of my favorite Pixel pieces...took forever though O_O

It sure looks like what I want!
If you're both fine with dithering, then I can split the adoptables between you two and it'll make the work go a lot faster. THANK YOU so much for both offering. <3 I just can't dither to save my life.
I'll have the templates by the end of the week - just waiting to hear back about credit and references.

Alright. :3
Just as a note to the artists - I should be finished the outlines by tomorrow-ish. References and credit came through. They'll be different then the ones I first tried though, I couldn't get credit for those ones.

Gloometh, I have another (realistic) fur style that I prefer, it's fairly simple but it's easier to copy and looks great...here's an example:
http://www.iaza.com/work/120328C/iaza12238432775600.png
(example was created for a friend and may not be used for any reason)
What would you think of that? Also, it's been a bit since you've said anything about this, you are still needing shaders, correct?
AlexC
03-27-2012, 06:33 PM
That does look pretty cool - though I can't tell too much - do you have a bigger example? *has bad eye sight*
I am in need of shaders, but not right now I think. I just want this project off the ground, so what I'm thinking of doing is releasing the site and scheduling the re-draws to be released beginning of new year. The reason I'm picking that late is because I hope to find a way to do rex and hairless varieties ready by that time too.
Would you be willing to wait and do the project over a longer period of time? It would be a much bigger project overall, but spread out over more time.

Sounds fine :) And...um...here's a very sloppy, basic example, but it may be easier on your eyes ;)

Hmm, that does look like an interesting shading... would be easier to recolor, AND could be easily changed to rex possibly...
Do you think you could attempt to do a rex variation of it? (curly fur, if you don't know what rex is)
Abronsyth
03-28-2012, 04:40 PM
Hm...give the fur a curly texture..? Sure, I can try to see what I can do :)
EDIT:
Okay, here's my rough try at making fur appearing 'curly'...how does it look?
http://www.iaza.com/work/120329C/iaza12238432000300.png
Please note that it will look different (better) when set on a specific line art and actually given a shape :)

That looks pretty darn good! o: I think that style would work perfectly for the rats actually.
My only concern at this point is hairless rats who have no fur at all. xD But otherwise it looks perfect for the rest.
Just so you know, if you want to practice, there is several different types of "varieties" that will be on the site. Some include coat variations, and those are hairless, rex, double rex (rex rat losing their hair), velveteen (like rexes, but with a more wavy style), satin (silky - still not sure how to do this one, make it shiny perhaps?) and harley (which is long haired). Obviously these won't be done all at once. I would probably aim for rex rats to be added after standard, hairless after that and I'm not sure after that.
http://www.ratspacnw.org/varieties.htm Examples are here if you'd like to see.

For the Hairless, I think your current shading style, or maybe a softer, gradient shading style would look best :) My sketchy style is just for furry things ;D And I'll work on this between working on figuring out how to create a feathered texture XD
AlexC
03-28-2012, 05:53 PM
True, some edits to my current style may work... hmm.
Alright - I'll get back to you once I know some more about what I have.

Well, let me know when you have some line arts in need of shading :) Shading doesn't take me long...like...10 minutes per line art at the very most. Haha, can't wait for RFTW to come out, I want to get some little ratties <3

Well, I'm just about ready for beta-testers once we can fix that darn log-out glitch I've been having. :/ Not sure what it is, really.
I've got seven rats all added to the adoption center and there will probably be some promo-codes, and I hope to have some members set up ratteries before it opens.

AlexC
03-29-2012, 08:13 PM
No, I just wasn't sure if you were still interested since I hadn't heard from you in a while.
I know I'm changing my mind again, but do you think you can do the style Iris has come up with? I know I said I wanted dithering, but it'll be longer and difficult to change to things like Rex or Hairless.

I think you need to go through your scripts and delete all the www. you see. I had the same problem.

wait... so that's what's causing my log-out problem? a lot of www's? wow. o.O I'll go have a look.
EDIT: I removed as many of the www. from infront of things as I could and it's still not working.

Just letting you know that I won't be able to work/help from the 1st of April to the following Saturday, as I will be in Florida and not have access to the computer.
Good luck until then ;D

Well yeah, the script cannot distinguish between http://yoursite.com and http://www.yoursite.com. Of course we know its the same site, but script distinguishes them as two different domains. Id say stick to one pattern, either use www all the time or not to use it anywhere in your script. Of course the cheapest way is to have yourself logged into both http://yoursite.com and http://www.yoursite.com, a little bit stupid if you ask me but it does work.
