Hi! I am creating an adoptable site called eternia, i am still working on the site, soon ill link them here when i am done setting up :D I would not be able to give real money, but ill give site currency or might pay credits if i can

I need someone to sprite species/animals bases for me, any animals will do that you think fits the site's name, (Please give it to me as a base with shading, so i can easily recolor it for breeds) just small ones (below 100x100), if i lack of bases, i might use free to use base sprites in this community

I also need someone to sprite items (Small ones only, as usual, below 100x100)

I need scenery artist - I also need one for my banner (Size is 1000x200 I need it to be just simply forest, you could just give me the bg and ill make the text)

thats all i need right now, ill add more soon if needed :D I hope this site will be successful :D

Will you take non-sprite bases? How about non-base pixels?

Well I thought about it, so I decided to practice. ovo~ So whether you want to use this for any while or not is up to you:
http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/162/5/0/base_by_kyttias-d7ly27l.png
It's transparent, but if you set it to 'multiply' on a higher layer in any art program, you'll probably have a better outcome.
http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/162/c/4/example_by_kyttias-d7ly278.png
Also available in .SAI and .PSD here (http://sta.sh/21geqsw9tl50).

I don't think I'm that great with pixels. >_o

Wait, do you have photoshop? if not, how does pixlr files sound?

Rovick
06-12-2014, 09:13 AM
nope, i have photoshop on my computer, so its fine

Hwona
06-12-2014, 05:48 PM
Do you want your site to have beginning stages as babies or eggs?

Rovick
06-12-2014, 08:52 PM
For me, eggs are better because they give supense, but baby stages fits the game more, so i dunno what to choose

Hwona
06-12-2014, 09:19 PM
Oh by the way, I was just thinking, not like there's anything wrong with using sprite bases, but it might be better to use normal bases like the one you have in your signature since in my opinion, sprites look better with each having they're own shading... but it works with sprites too.

Hwona
06-12-2014, 11:04 PM
If you don't plan on telling your users what each pet will look like, want to have some kind of randomized system, or save time, use eggs. Baby adoptables I think are more unique to each pet and give away more... how many stages do you want?

Rovick
06-13-2014, 05:10 AM
might be 3-5 for stages

Rovick
06-13-2014, 06:48 AM
Does anyone here can make 1000x200 scenery? I really need one so bad.. I need it for a bg for my top banner, i want it to be forest or anything you want that fits the site, sorry i cant offer real money, . I can only offer site currency, adoptables or forum credits if i can sorry.

Hwona
06-13-2014, 09:22 AM
Umm, just to help, you might want to put a link to the site so artists can see the existing theme - they might have a different visualization of the theme and end up drawing something that completely doesn't fit. XP

Rovick
06-13-2014, 09:40 AM
thanks wallie for helping me..

Heres the link : eternia.x10.mx

Its not yet done XP I havent done much yet (of course i still have alot to do with it) btw theme is by wallie, thanks alot!

So incase you need it, heres it

Hwona
06-13-2014, 09:44 AM
You changed the dropdown menu color on purpose right? (just checking) Err, you might want to change the length of the link boxes on the dropdown menu so they fit... you know how to do that right?

Rovick
06-13-2014, 09:54 AM
Nope, i dunno how to XD

Hwona
06-13-2014, 10:21 AM
Umm, so the dropdown menu was originally a light blue right?

Rovick
06-13-2014, 07:50 PM
Sorry it took hours for me to reply, yes its light blue

Rovick
06-13-2014, 09:09 PM
Still looking for helpers :D

Hwona
06-13-2014, 09:57 PM
To edit the dropdown menu for that theme, go to the theme's template folder->media->then on line12 of the dropdown menu css sheet there's this part that says something like "width; 248". You see that? Lower the number until you can fit all the link boxes on 1 line. :3

Here's a pixel for you:
Base: http://www.mediafire.com/download/9i01emdq3fi1f84/Eternia_Fox.psd
Pre-color:http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b521/Wallie987/EterniaFox_zpsf31b27da.png
It's not the best but, I hope you like it. :3

Hwona

Oh by the way, I wouldn't point out that you need staff so often - helper increase would be kind of slow if you aren't planning on hiring for pay. :3

Rovick
06-15-2014, 03:31 AM
I think its impossible for me to pay real money, the biggest bad reason is, our countries currency is alot lesser than dollars. For example 5dollars is already like 250php and its already high for us.. That's
the main reason why i cant pay.. But if someone generously donate, this will solve this problem..

Rovick
06-15-2014, 08:40 AM
I think its impossible for me to continue this site, i was deeply thinking today and thought about this

*Firstly, i cant verify my paypal account. Why? I dont have a credit card. i dunno if theres a way to recieve and send money without a credit card :( Why do i need so? Because i need to buy a domain, need to pay for hosting, need to pay for artists.. thats the biggest problem i have.

*Secondly, i have lack of coding knowledge, art skills.. Its rare to find one that will offer these for free because most people ask for money.

*And last, im too young, I think i am expecting too much on myself, but no. i think i am too young (11, turning 12 soon)..

Sorry guys. I dunno what to do now, im really disappointed that i cant continue it, i really want to but i dont know if theres another way.. :/

But thank you very much Kyittas for trying to help me for the pixel base, you can keep it now. and Wallie, i know you did so much effort just to help me, forgive me.. I wanna thank you for helping me alot for this site.

I might need to wait alot more heck of years ( like 10 years) to continue this game, its my dream to make one.. I really hope i can find a free easy adoptable site creator (Myvirtualpetsite is awesome, but i dont want to wait 1 year more because they allow only 13 and above) thanks guys! Ill have this script in my mind always, dreaming that someday i would create a site :D

Hwona
06-15-2014, 09:45 AM
Oh no, no, please don't give up! I'm 12 and I've been using this script since I was 10 or 11 and have been working on starting an adoptables site since I was 9 or 10. Please, please, don't give up! I was so inspired by your persistence! And english doesn't seem to be your first language? It's so amazing that such a young person can already do what you did, but the most important thing is will. Do you have parents to help you pay? You're site could still be successful with a free domain! When it comes to drawing and coding, I can try to teach you even though I'm terrible myself. D:

Rovick
06-15-2014, 10:24 AM
Thank wallie, i think your post made me wonder to continue, thanks again wallie! About my parents, they dont care about what i do on my computer. Its alright since i can ask for donations, but the problem is i dont have a paypal account, i dunno how it works or any.. But wallie? Do you use a tablet? Because mouse is so hard to control and i dont have a steady hand. I might switch to a normal adopt style if i cant learn how to pixel. Thanks wallie and you can try to teach me if you want, ill try to learn it as possible. I was shocked that you are only 12? I tought you were 20 or higherXD, thats a great talent for you to have. Ill try my best to be patience and do not rush things. Thanks again!

Hwona
06-15-2014, 10:38 AM
Yeah, I use a tablet. However, mice(computer ones) work too. If you go on my site, ALL older the caterpillars(the ones without tails) were done with a mouse. Also, I have a table - do you have a tablet? If you can't draw with a mouse, I suggest spriting which in my opinion, is actually easier with a mouse since you can go back and edit the pixels to make it perfect... but it's a bit hard since things don't always appear the way you want them to... And about money... so your parents aren't willing to pay for you? Have you even talked to them?

Rovick
06-15-2014, 10:44 AM
Um nope, they dont want to. Sadly i dont have a tablet, should i choose sprite style instead? Im okay in shading and coloring but my biggest problem is lineart and anatomy, its hard to clean the lineart also, i hope i can be better soon

Hwona
06-15-2014, 10:52 AM
That's really disappointing since you have so much talent... umm, line art and anatomy... is control the problem or structure the issue? I had the most problems with shading and anatomy... The thing that helped me most with form and shading was just looking at other people's work or photos. XD

Rovick
06-15-2014, 10:56 AM
What was the tutorial you were talking about? Can you send it to me?

Hwona
06-15-2014, 11:06 AM
You might have to be a member of the site to see it, but I'll get the link:
http://squiby.net/forums/read/1436
You know how to work with opacity in photoshop right? How about layer masks?(these REALLY help)
Note: the tutorial is not for spriting, but you can still learn some of the concepts from it. :3

Rovick
06-15-2014, 11:17 AM
Yes i know about opacitys, but how about masking? Is that a clipping mask you are talking about?

Hwona
06-15-2014, 11:32 AM
Umm, I'm not sure if it's the same as a clipping mask, but in photoshop, you can use the magic wand tool to select a shape outside or inside a closed line, click hirde or reveal selection, select another layer, and click "add layer mask". Do you know any livestream stuff...?
Edit: nevermind, I'll use screen shot. D:

You should continue, it's good to get experience early! You're doing more than I was at your age, but I was still doing quite a lot. PayPal's definitely gotten a lot stricter since it opened.

I'm not very experienced with pixel art. I've got all the concepts of shading from doing non-pixel art, but I just can't emulate down to a pixel level as well as I'd like to. It's also hard to squeeze anatomy into such tiny spaces.

http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2014/166/5/5/base_by_kyttias-d7mi65y.png

I added two more forms, and I think you should definitely keep the base. ovo~ It was made for you, and for practice for me.

Rovick
06-15-2014, 08:32 PM
Oh my! this is so great! i love them, this is a big help for me, thank you!

Rovick
06-15-2014, 09:01 PM
Just a thinking

Should i make them 4 stages? like
[Egg>Baby>Child>Adult]
I can make eggs myself, should i? Because eggs give suspense and suprises XD

Rovick
06-15-2014, 09:01 PM
Kyittas, What should i call your specie? they look unique and new

Hwona
06-15-2014, 10:11 PM
Sure, you can learn to draw by doing the egg sprites - it's really easy - just keep zooming back in and out until you have the shape you want. You should save the egg shading and lines as a base to use in the future.

Kyttias
06-16-2014, 03:44 AM
You can name the species anything you like. ^^

Hwona
06-16-2014, 10:04 PM
Would you want these? They're non-bases. If you don't it's okay! :D:

Wallie, thats really awesome! i will use it definetly.. Am i allowed to recolor it? :3

Rovick
06-17-2014, 07:25 AM
Uhm Wallie can i ask you how you did the color on the title? Here http://caterpillarcave.com/index On the "Home" title? Btw its not from the menu...

Hwona
06-17-2014, 10:01 AM
Sure go ahead an recolor it. It might be a bit difficult if you don't have a software that can replace colors though. XD
In your css stylesheet in the Eternia theme folder there's this part of the code:
#image a{
color:#222;
text-decoration:none;
font-style:italic;
font-weight:bold;
text-shadow: 0px 1px 1px #eee;
}
Edit the value after color:
:3

Rovick
06-18-2014, 08:42 AM
I was thinking of something

Should i use kyittas's inveted specie as the main specie for the game? (Just like caterpillar cave, only one specie) So it would be easier to create breeds and they can get different kinds of the specie, and if posdible battle them.. But this not my decision yet, i still need yours.. If i decided to use this, kyittas may i have your permission to create references for this for artists who want to create different poses for it? And wallie, thanks for all the work you did for me! I adore and love them! if i decided to do this, you could keep all your art or give them to the community.. thanks!!

Hwona
06-18-2014, 08:46 AM
I think that this would work best if there are a lot of different variations that can be created - like, maybe besides patterns, you could add horns and different types of tails, different numbers of ears, and etc. I also suggest using multiple different poses since 1 pose may get kind of boring... :3

Rovick
06-18-2014, 09:29 AM
yeah thats what i am talking about, when i get enough points for DA I might commision some (Honestly i dunno how to earn that much fast) How much is commision for pixel art in DA?

tahbikat
06-18-2014, 07:19 PM
It depends on the artist you hire. If you go for one of the best artists out there on dA, you could be paying 1500 - 5000 pts for a single adoptable species. But if you search for the smaller artists (who may or may not) be as good, you could definitely pay less, like 50 - 500 points.

Rovick
06-18-2014, 08:05 PM
Wha wha... Im speechless XD i dunno how to earn that much, i dont have art skills. All i do is sell adopts madrle from bases and it takes so long, it took me 8 months to earn like 200 with DaHub and selling
adopts, so sad i dunno what to do.

Hwona
06-19-2014, 09:56 AM
I still think the best option is to teach yourself... Actually, can you just draw an adoptable by yourselft completely first? Then, I'll try to help you. :3

Kyttias
06-19-2014, 04:10 PM
You're young and you're from a smaller country. I don't know what it's like there, but it's probably not the easiest, even for those who have it easier than others. It's completely understandable while you want to do something so ambitious and productive so soon in life! And I think that you should absolutely stick with it and hold it dear to your heart. You're a big dreamer and I think that's just as important as being able to wrap your head around coding and art. You want to learn, and I can definitely tell! It's good to have a hobby that could put you well off in life while you're still young and not expected to do so much yet.

You're very mature, but here in the United States there seems to be a focus on the safety of children and young teenagers online. A lot of websites are hosted/based out of the United States, and by law, they're not allowed to let anyone join if they're under the age of 13. (You may have come across this already?) Even when I was young, these laws were in place (and honestly, I lied about my age, too). I personally think it's very hard to judge someone's age online if they never say how old they are. And when someone says English isn't even their native language, it gets even harder to estimate someone's true age.

I bring this up because, for now, you're better off not stating your age online. I can't tell you not to join websites (and I doubt you'd listen, I wouldn't have, lol), just to stay safe. But I can recommend you not give away your age. That will both keep you safe and keep you from getting banned or kicked out of websites. DeviantART included. Not everyone is understanding or nice there, and the moment they know someone is underage, they will report them for their own safety.

Now that I've said that, I wanted to say that I've made several free to use bases that people can use for points commissions on DeviantART, and you're welcome to create things with them to sell for points. (Some are species that aren't my own, so they can't be used outside of that website, but the owner of the species allows people to make bases that can be sold. Like these ones (http://kyttias.deviantart.com/art/FREE-silvalox-bases-433706285).)

Rovick
06-20-2014, 07:21 AM
yeah i tought about that too.. theres no laws like that in our country so it will be alright... I am still trying to draw altough its hard but ill try my best

Rovick
06-20-2014, 08:07 AM
What i am doing now is saving points by selling adopts (I can sell one for 3minimum and 30 max) I really hope i can commission anyone for cheap bases.. 5-10 types of poses could be enough.. I hope i can save up soon ^_^

Hwona
06-20-2014, 09:24 AM
I actually have a base I drew based on Kyttias's but it's not a sprite. And just a heads up, comparing the time it took me to make that one and the time it took me to make one of the earlier sprites, non-sprites would probably be cheaper than those that aren't. If you wan't to use sprites, no problem, you just need the money or draw them yourself. :3

Kyttias
06-20-2014, 01:15 PM
^ Hehe, yeah! It takes me three times as long to make a sprite! I'm really looking forward to Tabi's tutorials, though.

So, I haven't asked yet, what's Eternia about? What kind of place is it? World/environment? If you draw a map I could take a shot at making a fancier version of it.

Do you have access to a scanner? It may be the fastest way to get your voice across to other artists. I'm decently good at redrawing things, when I'm not always very creative myself.

I'm still not sure what I'm doing with my own site, but I have plenty of free time to help out with yours for now.

Hwona
06-20-2014, 04:03 PM
^ Agreed, I'd like to know what you have in mind for a backdrop. :3
Anyhow, what do you think of this fellow(based of Kyttias's):

And I have no idea if this will help you at all, but I made a quick non-sprite tutorial for you:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1N2qdqr1R99JCX1b8zPMmulq-rf1Hwj6VOFm0ZFZghnY/edit?usp=sharing
Obviously, it's terrible. XD

thank you wallie, everything on the tutorial was easy, my weakness is drawing the lines and anatomy, ill try to practice more to make :D

yay!! I wanted to post the first base i made, i didnt put ears and tails so i can add different kinds when needed, please give me advice on what i need to improve, what mistake i need to fix.. Btw the base colors is by kyittas (Heres what it will look like when colored) thanks! I really tried the best, and its hard to draw with a mouse, a great thing is i am using kyittas's sketches for my adoptable so it will be alot easier, this one took 1-2hrs (idk)

Hwona
06-21-2014, 12:51 PM
Not bad for a first. :3 However, you might want to work a bit on making your lines a bit smoother and your curves a bit rounder. As for shading, maybe make it more noticeable like putting more shading?

I don't know the pose this adoptable is supposed to be in, but if it's supposed to be standing flat on the ground, I think some legs are a bit shorter than others. And don't forget the snout! :D

http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b521/Wallie987/OriginalSprite_zpsf2fc11e1.png (http://s1290.photobucket.com/user/Wallie987/media/OriginalSprite_zpsf2fc11e1.png.html)

Made a really quick redraw:
http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b521/Wallie987/NewAdoptableSprite_zps1ab2e598.png (http://s1290.photobucket.com/user/Wallie987/media/NewAdoptableSprite_zps1ab2e598.png.html)
Note: I think I messed up on the back flank. XP

Kyttias
06-21-2014, 06:03 PM
^ As the pose in question is from one of my sketch dumps, I can tell you that you've changed it completely by making it on solid ground, Wallie. Only the two straightest legs should be touching ground. Originally, it was a midwalk forward to the right looking skyward to the left. It's a bit too dynamic between my intention for the camera angle and pose for the anatomy to come across accurately without any context.

Rovick
06-21-2014, 10:22 PM
It was kyittas sketch dump i used, but thanks for helping, is there anything i need to fix?

Hwona
06-22-2014, 12:14 PM
Oh, ok! So, like this?:
http://www.mysidiaadoptables.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=38&pictureid=111 (I think I put the ears and horns in the wrong place.)
Hmm, in that case, I still think something looks a bit funny with the left leg, but oh well.
I think the curves on yours look a tiny bit sharp(the top of the flank looks a bit like a bump). It looks like the 2 front legs aren't separated by anything, so maybe put a line through there? Also, don't forget the snout! :D

Anyways, would you want the bases for all the critters I did for you like the one above? They're not sprites, but if you don't want them I'll take them. :3

Pear
06-25-2014, 10:42 PM
I could probably make you a species or two. Do you want any specific qualities to them? c: And some items too. :3

Rovick
06-26-2014, 07:28 AM
I need just recolorable shaded pixel art animal without ears and tail, Check examples above.. thats all i need, 3 stages. So i can put different ears and tails...

06-28-2014, 10:55 PM
^Oh really?! Anyways, have you decided whether or not you want to use 1 unique species?

Rovick
06-29-2014, 02:40 AM
I decided to use 1 specie

Hwona
06-29-2014, 09:44 AM
Okey dokey! So you won't need the other critters? I'll just share them! :3

Rovick
06-29-2014, 10:06 AM
Yeah sure you can, and what do you mean by other bases from the critters you gave me?

Hwona
06-29-2014, 10:11 AM
^You know how I made non-pixel versions of Kyttias's critters? I have the bases of those. I gave you colored versions, but I have the plain, transparent bases.

Rovick
06-29-2014, 08:37 PM

Oh man.. this is the result in like 6-8 tries. i tried about 5 hours (I been doing dis since yesterday, i just asked kyittas) MAN! Its hard to draw without a tablet.. It looks so crappy and unclean (With some little tiny dots).. I cant find a way to fix it..

I really hope i can get a tablet for my B-day (Its gonna be on july 7) and im turning 12.. But i dont think its possible because a tablet is soo expensive here in our country, almost 20k of our currency, i only get 2000 as my birthday allowance.. But ill never give up on this site...

^Actually, that's not bad at all for a mouse drawing. Also, you have to consider that on your adoptable site, that image is going to be smaller so SOME of the imperfections will seemingly disappear. Oh by the way, have you tried this:
Back when I didn't have a tablet, I used to draw all my stuff on paper, take a picture of it, open the picture in an editing software, and then trace the lines. The more you scroll in, the smoother your lines will be. Hope that helps. :3

You could try grabbing the eraser tool and 'sharpening' the ends of the lines where they round out. With pointed tips, it might improve? But zooming in is also good advice -- but backwards is even better: Open up what you're tracing to three or four times its normal size, then zoom out until it looks normal or twice it's normal size and draw on it from there. It doesn't sound logical, but once it's done, shrink it back down to the size it's supposed to be and it looks somehow crisper. When drawing on a larger canvas, the mistakes are smaller, so easier to fix, because you can zoom right in.

^That works really well.(If I understand what you're saying) :3 You'll have to draw slightly larger images though. Sometimes it can look blurry...

Eh, it doesn't matter if what you're tracing is blurry, it's getting deleted anyway. Once you've drawn something large, you can shrink it with no quality loss, so long as it's a .png. All bets are off if it's a .jpg or a .gif. I always draw 4x larger than I need to, crop, then shrink. It's also a good way of proving I'm the original artist - I have a file larger than a thief can produce without blurring it to enlarge it.
