Stocking Pets

Can someone help me on doing an adopt stocking system?

The users go to a page, where there're some eggs, but they can adopt just 1 (or other number) egg of each type (if 1 user has already adopted, others can't, the egg just disapear)... but every period of time, the eggs are restored...

It would take making 2 new tables in the database (more then likely), some new coding and running a cron. A decent amount of work.
